Music and Storytelling Celebrations for UU and
Ecumenical Groups
IN JOY AND PEACE GO FORTH
- Songs and meditations on peace at all levels from peace within oneself
extending to community, nation and world. Although this program is suitable for any time of the year, it was originally created as a Mother's Day celebration.
- The progrm centers around the story "Mairie’s Magic Flute", about a magic
flute that overcomes evil through music and dance.
- Material is taken from Conant's compositions, African American spirituals,
Unitarian hymns, Israeli rounds, and American folk music.

SING IT, DANCE IT, CLAP IT, SHOUT IT! A UNITARIAN REVIVAL
- New and old songs that express the practice and tradition of the UU faith.
Featuring Conant's compositions: the Seven Principles Rap and Light Up This Chalice (both of which can be performed by a youth choir), UU standards, and compositions by contemporary UU composers, this program is a lively way to reinforce UU community.
|
CELEBRATION OF A DAY
- Through song, poetry, chant and story, a celebration of the simple rituals of a
passing day from dawn, through morning sunshine, afternoon showers (and a high energy dance party) to twilight and night.
- Music includes African American Spirituals, Hawaiian music, Native American
flute, rounds, calypso, chant and more

Musician, Composer, Flutist Storyteller, Music Director
|
INNER BEAUTY VS OUTER BEAUTY
- Centered on a tragic Vietnamese fable that explores the consequences of
judging someone for their outward appearance rather than loving their inner beauty, this program addresses the first UU Principle, joyfully affirming the inherent worth and dignity of every person.
- Music includes traditional Chinese tunes, jazz tunes, African American
spirituals, and contemporary Unitarian hymns, rounds and more. Musicians include small jazz combo.

These multi-generational programs of
choral and instrumental music,
congregational singing, movement and
narrative engage your congregation in
joyful, participatory worship.
Susan provides the music and texts,
conducts rehearsals and perforsm with a
music worship team made up of members
of your congregation. Inspired by the
musicians' energy, your congregation will
sing their way towards a more spiritual
community.
The congregational songs and
movements are repetitive and easy to
learn and sing. They are paired with fun
instrumental accompaniments and
interludes that help make the music more
accessible and provide a continuous flow.
The material is diverse, from familiar and
unfamiliar sources –world music, jazz,
Unitarian hymnody, contemporary,
classical and Susan’s original
compositions.
All of the programs require a small choral
group, keyboard, various instrumentalists
and readers. Susan can usually work with
whatever talent your congregation has.
Some of the programs require a small jazz
or rock combo. All programs include
selections for choir alone, choir with
congregation and solo pieces.
MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE, THE POWER OF MUSIC AND SONG
- An exploration of music and dance as a spiritual tool that respectfully
references material from diverse world cultures. Based on the notion that “If you can walk, you can dance, if you can talk, you can sing”, this program encourages your congregation to explore their spiritual powers through music.
- Music includes sufi chant, Jewish nigun, drumming, dancing, African singing,
Taize style singing and more

"everyone loved the grand closing of "Go in
Peace", an exalting closure"
That was the closest thing I ever seen to a
Unitarian Revival!"
"It seemed to exceed the possibilities for
generating rhythm and excitement in this
staid old soul."
Hey Susan!
I really had a good time on Sunday, and I think
everyone did. You did a great job conducting and
playing. Thank you for putting the extra effort and
time into this performance with us!
